Auditions

Relax!!

This is not American Idol!  The Chorale’s audition is intended only to place you in the correct section of the Chorale.  Unless your name is William Hung and you’re singing “She Bangs,” you will almost certainly be welcomed into the Chorale!!

When you audition with Dr. Lingle, our artistic director, here is what you can expect:
1. He will lead you in several vocal exercises designed to check your range.
2. You will be asked to repeat back a sequence of several notes played on the piano to check your “tonal memory.”
3. You will be asked to “sight sing” a couple phrases from an unfamiliar song to determine eye/voice coordination.
4. You can sing a song that you know to demonstrate the weight and timbre of your voice (bring music if you have it). You can sing anything from the simplest “Happy Birthday” … to a rock classic … to Don Giovanni!

Open auditions for our June Pride Concert will be held prior to our first two regularly scheduled rehearsals in June. Visit our events page for details.

Dr. Lingle can also be available for auditions before any of our normal Tuesday rehearsals. You can become a singing member any time. However, if you join too close to a scheduled concert, you may be asked to support from the sidelines if there is not enough time for you to reasonably learn the repertoire.
